“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: his love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34
“Thanksgiving is inseparable from true prayer; it is almost essentially connected with it. One who always prays is ever giving praise, whether in ease or pain, both for prosperity and for the greatest adversity. He blesses God for all things, looks on them as coming from Him, and receives them for His sake- not choosing nor refusing, liking or disliking, anything, but only as it is agreeable or disagreeable to His perfect will.” John Wesley
Happy Thanksgiving! It has been a year of blessing, change and new adventures but also one of uncertainty and loss. Still, we believe that God provides us with good gifts and new mercies every day. Through Jesus, we receive peace that surpasses human understanding. We have light and love in a world that is so often dark and frightening. Most of all, we have each other, a fellowship grounded in our shared faith.
We know that the earth is the Lord’s and every blessing we have flows from God’s goodness. In acknowledgment of this, we will seize an opportunity to give back to God through a special Thanksgiving offering. There are a few options for giving. One option is the Homestead Soup Kitchen, a local organization serving the homeless and the poor. Another option is to contribute to the payment of our outstanding financial obligations for 2018. Our community is built on the faithfulness of its members and I encourage you to help RCUMC fulfill our promises. I also encourage you to help us partner with Branches through their annual turkey dinner distribution. Each year, RCUMC gathers to make stuffing to contribute. Join us Wednesday, November 21st at 1:00pm!
John Wesley wrote that giving thanks is inseparable from prayer itself. So, I invite you to pray with me. Let us praise God for being the source of all good things and for generously sharing the bounty with us, not only in this season, but every day!
Love in Christ,
