Rev. Anna Scharbo
Rev. Anna Scharbo grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area and has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Religious Studies from Florida State University and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Anna was commissioned as a Provisional Elder in the Florida Annual Conference. She previously served as a pastoral intern at First UMC of Coral Springs and Rising Hope United Methodist Mission Church of Alexandria, VA, where she worked in ministries connecting the church to a nearby Elementary School and in outreach to unhoused persons. Most recently Anna served as past oral resident at Mandarin UMC in the Florida Conference.
Anna has been “Minister in Residence” from July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 at Mandarin United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She participated in preaching, worship leadership, pastoral care and leadership.
Anna writes about her faith, “When I was a scared teenager, God's unmerited and unconditional love completely transformed my life. My calling is to help others experience the power of God's grace… the church exists to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Therefore, my job is to equip those disciples through the Word, Sacrament, Order, and Service. I will preach the word and with the church discern how to live out our Christian faith. I will invite others to receive grace through the sacraments of holy Communion and baptism, grace they will bring out into the world. I will serve by helping connect others talents two opportunities to love their neighbors. I am passionate about serving those who are hurting and providing the healing presence of God's love "in the trenches" of life and bringing mercy to those most in need."
She is passionate about helping others experience the life-changing power of God’s grace. She firmly believes that God loves and wants to use everyone. Anna feels called to equip others for service. Besides preaching and leading worship, she is particularly enthusiastic about ministering to those with mental illnesses, the unhoused and hurting people in general.
Anna's self-described gifts are pastoral care, worship leading, and preaching. In her first year serving in the Florida conference she has learned more about Fresh Expressions of church as well as the Church-School partnership. In her free time, Anna loves to be with her friends (both two and four-legged), travel (she’s been to 7 countries and counting!), and to do just about anything related to the arts. She is a self-professed bookworm (she is especially fond of the Harry Potter series) and always appreciates new book recommendations.
